Happy Veterans Day

Today is Veterans Day and, during a time of war, it is especially important to take some time to acknowledge and appreciate all that the men and women in the armed forces have done for each and every one of us.  No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, everyone should understand the magnitude of the sacrifices that these men and women have made and are making for our country.  So to all the veterans and active soldiers: thank you.

The Soldier

It is the soldier, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer,
who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the soldier, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the soldier,
who salutes the flag,
who serves under the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag,
who allows the protester to burn the flag.
